KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The YMCA Community Center of Platte County South has notified its members that a child at the facility came to the Y with the MRSA staph infection, a staph germ that is resistant to first-line antibiotics that usually cure infections.
“MRSA” (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) caused a scare a few years ago when the public became more aware of it and learned that some were dying from it or losing limbs.
In the letter, the YMCA said:
“One of our Child Watch participants who acquired this infection used our Child Watch facilities at Platte County Community Center South on Friday, September 7, and Saturday, September 8.”
The YMCA said they have cleaned the facility thoroughly and that the Child Watch facility is cleaned daily. The YMCA is open and operating at normal hours.
