WYANDOTTE COUNTY, Kan. — The state of Kansas confirmed its first flu case on Monday. No other information about the patient has been provided.
Health professionals said it serves as a good reminder to get vaccinated.
Flu symptoms include fever, dry cough, tiredness and muscle aches. The number of flu cases increases during winter months, peaking around February.
Health officials recommend people six months old and older get the vaccine.
“It’s critical because every year we have thousands of deaths that are occurring needlessly. There will be well over 200,000 folks who flee to our emergency rooms this season.” said Gloria Solis; St. Luke’s East Hospital.
The Wyandotte County Public Health Department said they have plenty of flu shots on hand. The cost is $30. You can walk in without an appointment.
