KANSAS CITY, Mo. — As the first day of Alphapointe’s adventure camp for children who are blind or visually-impaired approaches, the need for volunteers and donations grows. Clay Berry, Alphapointe’s Director of Education and Rehabilitation, stopped by the FOX 4 Morning Show to talk about what the camp provides to children ages 9 to 14.
“What we want to do is challenge these kids physically, challenge them mentally and then interpersonally, so that we can have them be on par with their peers,” Berry said.
This year, 25 kids are signed up to attend camp, double the amount from last summer. The theme is “Be a Hero,” to encourage kids to follow their dreams, Berry said.
“It’s phenomenal to see so many first time experiences we see at camp,” he said. “We’re trying to change how they think, but they think they’re just having fun.”
