He was the feature of this week’s Pay It Forward. Seven-year-old Patrick Wilson lost his eye sight to disease, but he hasn’t let that stop him from pursuing his passion for music.
Patrick loves to sing and play the piano for the residents at Sweet Life Nursing home in Shawnee, Kan. The staff at the nursing home appreciate him so much they nominated him for FOX 4’s Pay It Forward in which the recipient is given $300.
Of course, Patrick was surprised — and grateful. He said he was going to put the money toward buying a harp. But 93-year-old Arlee Gentry saw the story about Patrick and knew the harp her family had given her should now be given to Patrick.
Patrick’s mother, Sarah Updike, said the donation took her by surprise.
“I couldn’t believe it,” she said. “We were planning on saving up enough for him to be able to buy one, but with her help, he was able to just get one right off the bat and we hadn’t expected that at all.”
Updike said because of the kindness she and her son have received through the Pay It Forward program, they’re now looking to pay it forward to someone else.
However someone saw the story and donated a harp, letting Patrick save his money for something else!
