SHAWNEE, Kan. — Students at one metro school will receive hundreds of iPads this spring semester thanks in part to a grant through Farmers Insurance’s “Thank America’s Teachers” program.
St. Joseph Catholic School is the first in both Kansas and Missouri to win the grant challenge. The $100,000 grant will purchase nearly 400 iPads for students in kindergarten through eighth grade.

With the help of other teachers, Lisa Fox applied for the grant during the summer and the school was awarded a check in early December. Fox said technology has changed the way she teaches.
“With them knowing everything when they come in [the classroom]… growing up they have been on their parents’ iPads and we have to keep up with it… It creates collaborative learning,” Fox said.
The iPads will be used in different subjects, from reading to math and science, and in all grades.
