KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Police are investigating an accident that left a two-year-old boy dead. Officers responded to 67th & Blue Parkway around 2 a.m. Saturday. When they arrived, the found a toddler who had been struck and killed by a car.
A witness reported seeing the toddler running eastbound in the westbound lanes shortly before the accident happened. When the woman turned around to find out what was going on, the child had already been hit.
Grover Clawson runs the hotel where the child was staying. He says despite the doors having two locks, it can still be opened.
“With the dead bolt locked, the door can be opened from the inside,” Clawson said. “It wouldn’t be completely unreasonable for a resourceful toddler to push a chair over and remove the chain.”
The boy’s family is visiting Kansas City and his father says he wandered away from their room at the Crown Lodge which is about half a mile from where the accident happened.
Officers believe the driver didn’t realize that they side swiped the child. If anyone has any information on this accident, they’re urged to call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
