KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A little boy is learning a very hard lesson after someone stole his beloved Royals’ flag from his family’s front yard.
Almost everywhere you look in Kansas City, from the fountains to the decorations on people’s homes, you can see the city’s spirit for Royals fever.
The American flag isn’t the only flag that used to fly at the Kansas City North home belonging to a four-year-old boy and his family. There used to be another one; a very special Royals’ flag.
Joe Crawford, 4, knows the Royals chant and his favorite player on the team, but now he also knows the feeling of losing his cherished Kansas City Royals’ flag.
“It made me sad,” said Joe.
“It was our four-year-old’s flag and to have to explain to a preschooler that someone stole something of ours was kind-of, we didn’t want to teach him that lesson that early in life,” said Joe’s mother, Maggie Crawford.
“I pretty much told him when you take something away from someone, it hurts their feelings and it makes you feel sad inside,” added Joe’s father, Ryan Crawford.
Joe’s parents say the flag was stolen sometime late Friday night to early Saturday morning.
“I don’t know if it’s a coincidence or not but the Royals lost on Saturday and they lost last night so, might have been a good luck flag,” said Maggie.
The Crawford’s say Joe’s good luck flag was nailed to their front porch, and that there was no chance it could’ve blown away.
The family said they were blown away by the callousness of thieves during this great time in our city.
“We are supposed to be united as fans and cheering for a team and not hurting each other by taking someone else’s property,” said Ryan.
Now the Crawford’s have to hang their new flag on the inside of their home so it doesn’t get stolen. They are hoping somehow the old one will be returned so it will bring the Royals good luck and help bring home the crown.
