KEARNEY, Mo. – An area school was on lockdown as police searched for a criminal who was on the loose.

Kearney Elementary School, located at 902 S Jefferson Street, was put on lockdown Tuesday while a robbery suspect was being chased by police. The school was having parents come to the school to pick up their children.

Later on a Clay County deputy became involved in a car chase. As of about 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday authorities were looking for one suspect in the area of 16th Street to 33 Highway and I-35 to 28th Street.

Shortly after 5:00 p.m. authorities gave the all-clear to area schools. They now have one suspect in custody.
