KANSAS CITY, Mo. — More than 120 bands will be playing at the Middle of the Map Fest over a span of three days, April 3-5, in Westport.
There’s a little rock, a little roll, and a little something else: “Poppy, blues, rock, soul, jazz folk.”
At least that’s how some people describe The Clementines. The band serenaded the Westport Saloon Thursday night. Nearly five dozen bands come from Kansas City or the Lawrence area.
“[It’s] first time for us [playing]. It’s a big deal,” said Nicole Springer, the lead vocalist of The Clementines.
This is the 4th year for Middle of the Map and it’s quickly becoming a staple of the Westport Entertainment District. Nathan Reusch, one of the curators from the record machine, is hoping the music will usher in at least 6,000 concert goers.
“We initially started this thing four years ago. And we were hoping that 1,000 people would come out and we had about 3,000 come out that first year. So it’s been a big surprise just to see how it’s grown. It’s always exceeded our expectations,” said Reusch.
Middle of the Map Fest is becoming a hit for most people looking for something to do this weekend.
“A band full of mostly friends of hours who will be playing at the Middle of the Map Fest at Record Bar Friday night,” said Jesse Janis, who plans to go in support.
“I definitely want to check it out and see what it’s all about. I definitely have some friends going to it. Hopefully I’ll be a part of it,” said Annalise Guthrie about the Fest.
