KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Missouri Dept. of Transportation crews shut down a portion of southbound 71 Highway near Gregory because of multiple accidents, possibly from black ice conditions.

At 7:00 a.m. southbound 71 Highway was closed from Gregory to 85th St. The highway was reopened by about 7:20 a.m., but both directions remained very slow. Then, at about 7:30 a.m., more accidents were reported, possibly as many as half a dozen at once, and MoDOT reportedly shut down 71 Highway at 55th Street.

FOX 4’s Nick Vasos suggests using I-435 or Holmes, Wornall or Stateline as alternative routes.

Other problem areas included 59th and Paseo, where a bus was reportedly involved in an accident and 169 Highway and 152-Highway in the Northland.
