KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Wiley Carter waited at his daughter’s daycare “Operation Breakthrough” to be interviewed by the Car Santa. He thought he was one of several applicants nominated by Sister Berta for a car, but was actually the only one.
“We don’t have a lot of dads that take complete responsibility for their children, and he’s taken responsibility of his children and he’s a great dad,” Sister Berta said.
Left a single dad after his wife was murdered, he and his two young children are homeless in midtown, but a new job in Lenexa has offered a new life. However, it has taken him hours on the bus and then he walks three miles in transit to work.
“You know walking three miles is a lot,” Sister Berta said.
So she called FOX 4 and the Car Santa came to the rescue.
“He’s a wonderful man and he just needed a break,” Sister Berta said.
It was obvious Terry Franz and his sidekick had the perfect car for Carter because tears started rolling down his cheeks when he was handed the keys.
An anonymous donor gave Sister Berta money so Carter could pay for his tags and car insurance on his new, but old car from the Car Santa. If you’d like more information on the program, click on this link.
