KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An accused cat hoarder in the Northland who made headlines two years is back in jail Monday evening.
Animal control officers and police returned to Delorse Metcalf’s home on North Bales Avenue Monday afternoon. Investigators say the 58-year-old violated a city ordinance and should not have been living in her home which city officials called “unsafe” months ago.
On Monday, Animal Control seized 15 cats and kittens from the home. Investigators say they also saw bags and trails of trash, cat feces covering the floors and mice. Her freezer had plastic bags filled with dead mice, investigators said.
“I just don’t know how anyone lives like that,” neighbor Marzella Blackmon said. “It’s disgusting. It’s a wonder she’s not sick herself.”
In Sept. 2011, Metcalf was cited for animal cruelty after Animal Control seized more than 150 cats and kittens from her home. Another 50 dead cats were found on the property.
Metcalf, who also goes by the name “Delores Flores,” is being held on a $500 bond.
