KANSAS CITY, Mo. — It’s that time of year – the annual pre-Thanksgiving holiday travel rush, as officials at Kansas City International Airport say that nearly 400,000 travelers are expected to pass through the airport over the holiday weekend.
According to airline industry organization Airlines for America, nearly 24 million passengers are expected to fly during the Thanksgiving holiday, a slight increase over 2011, and most flights are expected to be at least 90 percent full – making for long lines at many airports across the nation.
Officials at KCI are urging the public to check ahead for flight status information, and to check in with their airline electronically and to print out boarding passes before arriving at the airport to help cut down on wait times. The airport also urges people to arrive early – 60 to 90 minutes for domestic flights and two hours for international flights – to give themselves plenty of time to check-in luggage and pass through security screening.
