KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City-based AMC Theaters says that they will no longer allow people with costumes or masks into their theaters following the shooting deaths of at least a dozen people at an Aurora, Colorado, movie theater early Friday morning.
In a statement, the theater chain says that they are deeply saddened by the shooting at a midnight screening of the new Batman movie – “The Dark Knight Rises” at the Century 16 Movie Theatres in Aurora, and they are reinforcing their security procedures.
At least 12 people were killed and scores more were injured in the shooting. The alleged shooter, 24-year-old James Holmes, was taken into custody at the scene.
There is no word on any motive in the shooting.
AMC also says that the shooting incident will not change their show schedules, but that they will no longer allow moviegoers into their theaters dressed in costumes or wearing face-covering masks, or carrying fake weapons. The theater chain says that if moviegoers want to exchange or refund any tickets, they will honor their existing policy.
“We are taking necessary precautions to ensure our guests who wish to enjoy a movie this weekend can do so with as much peace of mind as possible in these circumstances,” said AMC in their statement.
