OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — In the Head for the Cure’s 11th straight year, more than 5,000 people ran in Sunday’s 5K run to find a cure for brain cancer
The event grows every year and this year was no different. Participants ran solo or in teams. They made the event a tribute to those who have battled brain cancer by writing personal notes to the people for whom they were running.
While the non profit has raised lots of money to fund research for brain cancer over the years, chairman Matt Anthony said it still has a lot more work to do before the organization is satisfied.
“A revolution is out there, so far it’s been elusive. But we’re getting closer,” he said.
The Head for the Cure run started after Anthony’s brother, Chris died from brain cancer.
Since it’s inagural 5K in 2003, the event grown to be one of the largest 5K’s in Kansas City metro.
