KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Time-Warner has had an app available for the iPad for some time. Earlier this month, they released a version for the iPhone. The verdict? Not bad.
The app allows you to watch TV from your iPhone/iPad from anywhere in your house. Yes, that’s right, anywhere in your house — you can’t, say, go to Starbucks and watch TV; it just doesn’t work that way. You have to be within your home WiFi network for it to work.
But, having said that, it’s pretty cool to have that ability. The picture quality is quite good, and closed captioning is a plus.
It also allows you to program your DVR — and this can be done from anywhere. TiVo users have had this ability for quite a while now, so it’s good to see TWC incorporating that ability into an app. It will even turn your high-priced smartphone into a remote control as well (if you don’t have one handy).
The Time-Warner app is available for the iPhone and iPad; there’s an Android version, but, sorry folks, I don’t think this one allows for live streaming. They’re promising that in an upgrade, as well as a computer desktop version. You also have to have Time-Warner cable and Internet service for it to work as well.
