Driveaway tags are specialty license plates that are designed to help in the sale and transit of vehicles on the market.
They are limited by law in how they are to be used, but our Fox 4 News Investigation, and time spent with Kansas City, MO police, show the tags are often misused. And easy to come by. For $44.50 the tags allow users to avoid sales taxes, and perhaps even property taxes on their cars.
Fox 4’s John Holt and Photojournalist Jon Haiduk take a look at the widespread misuse of the tags, and how the state, with the help of local law enforcement, is cracking down on this Drive Away Giveaway!
