OTTAWA, Kan. — Baby Lana, the one-year-old little girl whose mother was found dead this week on an Ottawa farm, is also now presumed dead, according to authorities in a news conference Thursday morning.
They also announced that they have arrested Kyle Flack, 27, on suspicion of first-degree murder for the three homicides of Kaylie Bailey, 21, Andrew Stout, 30, and Steven White, 31. Flack is from the Ottawa area.
Before the news conference, the grandmother of Lana Bailey told FOX 4 that police told her they had found Lana’s body, however authorities said they had not, but that they have reason to believe the child is dead.
“During this investigation, we have received information that leads us to believe that the 18-month-old Lana Bailey is presumed dead and a victim of homicide as well,” said Franklin County Sheriff Jeff Richards.
Richards said they have not yet recovered the child’s body, but are searching the property where Lana’s mother, Stout and White were found dead. Richards said the Franklin County farm where the bodies were located is considered a ‘large crime scene’ and that other agencies will assist in the search for Lana’s body, including a mounted search and rescue team, canines, ATVs and a team from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
“The motive is not something we are prepared to discuss,” said Franklin County Attorney Stephen Hunting. “We want to protect and maintain the integrity of this investigation.”
