LAWRENCE, Kan. — Two more fires in Lawrence have residents worried that an arsonist could put their lives in danger.
Lawrence investigators say two fires on Monday and one on Tuesday are strikingly similar to a rash of unsolved suspected arsons that began October 19 in the same neighborhood.
There are many apartment buildings in the area of concern, which runs from 23rd Street to 25th Street, between Iowa and Naismith Drive.
Residents feel targeted.
“I don’t want to die,” said one resident. “I don’t want everybody in the apartment complex to get burned down.”
So far, no one has been hurt in any of the fires.
Monday night, firefighters rushed to an apartment complex on 24th Street where they put out a fire in a hallway just outside of a laundry room.
Another fire Tuesday morning at the Cedarwood Apartments also started in a laundry room, where a bag of trash was set on fire.
Many of these apartments do not lock exterior doors, and investigators say it’s easier for people to get inside.
Apartment managers have distributed fliers hoping neighbors will be on alert for anyone suspicious.
