KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A woman who said she came home and saw her brother being assaulted told police she was able to scare off two men before they left with the victim, but not before a severe beating. On Tuesday Jackson County prosecutors announced that Larry Bell, 29, was charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action stemming from the assault on March 15.
Court documents state that Bell, who also goes by an alias of “Pork Chop,” went to a home in the 7500 block of 85th Terrace and accused the victim of setting up the theft of his car the night before. Bell and another unknown assailant attacked the victim and dragged him outside toward Bell’s vehicle.
Bell is accused of punching the victim and striking him with a hand gun and four-way tire iron while also repeatedly kicking him. Bell was then said to have tried to put the victim in the trunk of his car before the victim’s sister arrived to the scene and yelled that she was calling police. Bell and the other assailant fled the scene.
The victim’s sister told police she had heard Bell come to the door and that her brother had told him to leave. At some point she left for the store and when she came back, she witnessed the assault in progress. When police arrived the victim was suffering severe bleeding, had bruising and several deep facial lacerations, which hospitalized him. His current condition was not given.
Officers didn’t arrest Bell until March 24 when he was taken into custody in the 2300 block of E. Meyer Blvd. Bell provided detectives a statement where, according to court documents, he admitted to attacking the victim and causing the injuries. He is currently in the Jackson County Detention Center where prosecutors have requested a $150,000 cash bond for his release.
