KANSAS CITY, Mo. — It’s a relatively quiet street in the 200 Block of Tracy Avenue, just East of Kansas City’s River Market.   Tuesday afternoon dozens of kids filled the sidewalks, the air full of playful noise. However, in the wee hours of Tuesday morning it was a different sound that filled the air.

“It sounded like a shootout to me.  I heard one shot then another one, then it just kept going back and forth,” said Brian Jones who lives just one block from the house that was hit.

At least 60 shots were unleashed on one of the homes while five people slept inside.

“Around 1 o’clock I heard what sounded like two people were shooting off gunfire.  There were a lot of gunshots,” said Jones.

The house now has it’s windows boarded, the glass shattered and white police markings around each of the 60 holes.

“I’m thankful it didn’t happen at 1:15 in the afternoon because when the kids are around, someone could have gotten seriously hurt and it could have been a child,” Jones said.

At least one of the gunmen was shooting from the sidewalk across the street, a witness says he saw another gunman behind the house. Many neighbors left too afraid to show their face on camera.

“Even when they said there were 60 shots.  It was more scary because I just hear it.  The gunshots.  It was like multiple gunshots,”  said one of the neighbors who did not want to be identified.

A 23-year-old man sleeping on the first floor was hit at least twice. Four other residents, including two small children asleep upstairs were unharmed.

“Its scary. Its not something that used to happen here.  It used to be a good place.  Different ethnicity but we all like each other.  We do’nt bother.  But its kind of scary,” said one of the neighborhood women.

Kansas City Police say at this time they have no suspects and no one in custody related to the shooting.
