KANSAS CITY NORTH — A local band is asking for the public’s help to recover more than $10,000 worth of musical instruments stolen Wednesday in a daring daylight burglary at a Northland home. It happened near North Cleveland and Parvin Road.
The musicians had been practicing in the basement of the house, and believe the thieves heard them play and knew the instruments were stored inside. Electric guitars, a bass, amplifiers and other gear all belonged to the Kansas City heavy metal band, “At The Left Hand Of God.”
The break-in occurred between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 26. Band members say the thieves left other valuables behind, including a large flat screen TV.
Despite three locks on the door to the home, the thieves managed to break them all and jimmy their way inside.
There’s evidence that the crooks may have broken a window in the vehicle they used during the crime.
The victims hope someone will recognize the instruments shown in the video attached to this story or notice a vehicle with a broken window and call police.
“We’ve all been doing this for a long time,” said David Herron, one of the band members. “We don’t make much money playing music. We just do it for the love of playing. All the money we do make goes into our gear. We have no means to replace it right now.”
The band has several performances coming up that are now in jeopardy of taking place. Herron is asking friends and neighbors to keep an eye out for the instruments on Craigslist, E-Bay or in pawn shops. He says the guitars and amplifiers will probably be offered for a lot less than they are worth.
The band also is offering a $500 reward for information that leads to an arrest or the return of their instruments. This may be combined with the TIPS Hotline reward of up to $2,000. If you think you can help police in this case, call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
