KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Back to school means a lot of extra expenses for metro families, especially when you add a request for a band instrument.
That is where Band of Angels comes in. They match kids in need with their instrument of choice.
Meyer Music stores in Kansas City, makes the connection by collecting donated instruments and repairing them.
Band of Angels has put more than 800 instruments in the hands of students who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford them.
“We know that for a donor to give up that instrument there are a lot of memories and it is a difficult thing to do and we want to pair that with a specific student,” said Mike Meyer with Meyer Music.
“It allows them to be creative and to become a part of something so much larger than they could do on their own without music in their lives,” said Rob Foster.
This year Band of Angels was able to send 18 of its instrument recipients to band camp as well.
