KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Bikers from around the metro are enduring extreme heat for a cause they believe in. Janey’s ride is in its 15th year.

Hundreds of big-hearted bikers spent Sunday on a 85-mile tour through the Northalnd. At times, bikers felt like they were riding into a furnace with temperatures topping 100 degrees. The bikers were riding to raise money for residents at the Immacolata Manor. It’s home to 35 adults with developmental disabilities.

“You come out here and see the kind of care that’s going on out here…see the kind of love they bring everyday,” said Ryan Hicks with the Independence Order of Odd Fellows.

In 2011, Janey’s ride raised nearly $30,000.

“It takes care of dental care, transportation, vehicles and furnishings,” said Stacie Bratcher with Immacolata Manor.

The 2011 record was shattered when Ed Hale’s posse rode in with a saddlebag of cash.

“They are the purest of souls,” Hale said.

Jeff Heisman started Janey’s ride with a couple dozen people 15 years ago to honor his mom, an avid biker.

“She passed away in ’96,” said Jeff Heiseman.

Victoria Dunfee led the 2012 ride. Her cousin lives at the manor and her sister has Down’s Syndrome.

“They bring so much joy to our home and atmosphere,” Dunfee said.

Janey’s ride is set to raise between $45-$50,000 for 2012. Click here to learn more about Immacolata Manor.
