SAN FRANCISCO — FOX 4’s John Holt and Al Wallace are in San Francisco, preparing for Game 3 against the Giants.
As they were leaving Kansas City on Thursday, they ran into Billy Butler’s family at KCI.
Butler’s mom and dad, Beth and J.D., and Butler’s mother-in-law Molly stopped to talk to them about what it’s like to see their son in the World Series.
“I don’t know if it’s really set in yet. We’re just trying to enjoy the moment. I think last night it really hit when Billy came up in that big spot and the whole crowd was going ‘Billy Butler!’ and wanna kind of step back and appreciate that,” J.D. said. “You know the biggest thing is I think I’m proud of the city. What a statement Kansas City has made. I think if anybody has ever questioned where America’s at with the
game of baseball you don’t have to look too far right now.”
J.D. also recalled how growing up, Billy used to speak in ‘whens’ not ‘ifs’.
“Dad, when I get to the World Series… when he’s 12 years old. When I make it to the big leagues. You encourage those young kids. Those are great dreams to have. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with setting those expectations, but as parents we don’t know if that’s ever something you’re going to get a chance to do. I guess the bottom line is that all of his dreams have come true and certainly we’re way beyond all of my wildest dreams.”
Before heading to their hotel, John Holt and Al Wallace had to swing by AT&T Park , 24 Willie Mays Place, and take in that sight. San Francisco’s new stadium was built in 2000 for $357 million, replacing Candlestick Park. It holds 42,000 seats. Look for the blue in the crowd!
