KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Hickman Mills School Board members say they are moving forward after the release of results from a district audit. The comments came after a school board candidate forum on Monday night. Results of that audit were released last week and found wasted funds, mismanagement, and many no-bid contracts
The audit was one of the main topics forum hosted by the South Kansas City Alliance. Breman Anderson was school board president at the time of the audit. Auditors said Anderson was responsible for arranging the no-bid contracts and reassigning top administrators on his own. Anderson said during the forum he takes full responsibility for everything that came out in the audit.
But he and current board members Bonnaye Mims and Dan Osman, who were all asked in front of the crowd about that audit, told us that the district is moving forward and taking care of all issues.
“You look about a month from now, people are moving forward. It was on the news I remember one day, but the next day a lady drove into the ocean with her children, so things are just moving in a different direction for the people of this district. We’re trying to move forward,” said Anderson.
“I’m pleased to see that we’re going to be able to move forward. I’m pleased to see that it’s out in front of the people. I’m pleased for that audit to come out now instead of after the election so people will see the truth,” said Mims.
Osman has hopes that the district will improve following the audit.
“I think in the next three months as the auditors come back and look at the recommendations they made for this district, and what we’ve done to improve it, they will see that we have met those expectations,” Osman said.
