KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Lady Gaga is entertaining her Kansas City area fans at the Sprint Center. Her concert was sold out a long time ago, but before her concert, Lady Gaga was spreading a more serious message.
As part of her Born This Way Foundation, Gaga’s Born Brave tour bus pulled into town to spread a message of acceptance and suicide prevention. It was the one day many say they could truly be themselves.
“Born This Way,” a massive pop hit and a longer-lasting message. It’s a message Lady Gaga’s Born Brave Bus Tour is spreading across the country through March.
It’s a message that Jeremy Rigdon says means a lot.
“You can be yourself around people,” Rigdon explains.
Rigdon is a senior at Van Horn High School in Independence, and he’s a huge Lady Gaga fan.
“When she first started, I just loved her, she was out there,” Rigdon said.
Rigdon was one of several students at the Independence School District to be chosen to come to the Born Brave Bus before the Gaga concert.
“He loves Lady Gaga. He just loves her,” Jeremy’s Mom, Tracie Rice, said.
Jeremy’s mom decided she should go ahead and buy tickets to the show too.
Before the concerts is when Breedlove, Lady Gaga’s close friend, sees a real change in people.
“Lives are actually being changed, which is beyond what we could ask for,” Breedlove said.
Breedlove is an ambassador for the Born Brave Bus Tour. Through connections to local mental health resources or mentoring opportunities, Gaga fans are learning there’s help if they need it, and support is coming from people who’ve been bullied or depressed before.
“I had to fight to be myself every single day. High school was a nightmare for me,” Breedlove said.
He and his friend, Lady Gaga, want their fans and everyone to know life may be hard, but it will get better.
“You’re not alone. You can’t end your life because there’s too many magical surprises that are in store for your future,” Breedlove explained.
The Born This Way Foundation was created in 2011 by Lady Gaga and her mother. Their goal is to create a more accepting society.
