DELAWARE TOWNSHIP, N.J. — A 34-year-old man is behind bars after shooting and killing his 10-year-old nephew, New Jersey police said.

Chad Olm, 34, has been charged with homicide. According to police, Olm was at a family gathering on Saturday, April 3. Police said Olm was showing his gun collection to relatives, including his nephew, identified as 10-year-old Hunter Pedersen. One of the guns included a Glock 27 with a laser sight on it.

According to court documents, Olms pointed the laser on the ceiling at the walls. Olm then allegedly pointed the laser at his nephew’s forehead. Investigators believe Pedersen may have reached for the gun before Olm pulled the trigger.

Authorities who responded to the scene said it was emotional and challenging.
