KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A boy, 6, who was apparently abandoned at a Kansas City fire station on Monday by his father, has been returned to his mother.

The man reportedly told firefighters that he could not care for the boy anymore.

A law in Missouri called the Safe Haven Law allows parents of newborns who feel unable to care for them, to leave their children without fear of prosecution.

The law does not include a child as old as six however, and prosecutors are looking at whether they will file charges against the man.

Meanwhile, lawmakers are considering whether the Safe Haven Law needs to be expanded.

FOX 4’s John Pepitone looked into that.
