OLATHE, Kan. — More than 30 people face charges in a massive bribery case in Johnson County involving fake driver’s licenses. Police were still looking for two people, and have arrested one of them, Monica Henandez-Gonzalez. Antonio Garcia Simon, 27, is still sought. In a news conference Thursday afternoon, investigators explained that they had 32 people in custody as part of their investigation into fraudulent Kansas driver’s licenses.
The investigation has been going on for some time, they said, and included “three levels of involvement.”
“One being an examiner at the office that has been arrested, as well as what we would coin, maybe fixers or facilitators who she worked with in order to have these fraudulent driver’s licenses produced and then those that received those driver’s licenses,” said Steve Howe, Johnson County District Attorney.
On Tuesday, the district attorney filed charges against eight suspects, one of whom is a state worker. Then, on Wednesday and Thursday, 25 more people were charged. (See their mug shots in gallery below.)
The Kansas Department of Revenue is in charge of the investigation.
