CAMERON, Mo. — After reaching the final four, Donn Harrison learned he is the top teacher for 2015 after winning a national TV show contest. Your votes put him on top, and the news was revealed on Live with Kelly and Michael Friday morning on FOX 4!
Cheers erupted back in Cameron. Students, staff, and community members filled Parkview Elementary School’s cafeteria to watch their very own teacher, Harrison, win the award.
“We`d been planning since wednesday when he was actually interviewed on the show, so we`ve been planning all along to watch and have the kids involved, so regardless of the outcome, we just wanted everyone to be supporting Mr. Harrison,” said the school principal, Laurie Mefford, who said she wasn’t surprised at all that Mr. Harrison won.
“When you include all of those other things that he does for students within the community, that definitely puts him ahead of the rest,” added Mefford.
His students say they too knew all along he would win.
“Because he’s the nicest teacher,” said one kindergarten student, Mia Anderson, “He gives us treats whenever were good, and stars in the hallway whenever we`re good and quiet.”
“He`s awesome!” said another student, Andrew Knutter.
“He`s silly!” added Christian Hill, another student.
“Once everyone was able to see him, meet him, they would understand exactly how amazing he is,” Mefford said.
Mefford says Mr. Harrison is an amazing teacher and truly deserves the title of top teacher.
“We have several people that are just like Mr. Harrison, who everyday come in here and they do what they do because they love their job and they do what they do because it`s all about the kids,” said Mefford.
“We love you Mr. Harrison!” says a group of his students holding up signs for their teacher.
The students and staff here are anxiously awaiting Mr. Harrison’s return so they can congratulate him for an honor they say he truly deserves.
Besides the title of Top Teacher — Harrison won a car and $20,000.
