INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — ‘Twas the week before Christmas, and an Independence family’s car was stolen with the kid’s gifts still in the trunk.
Police found the car two days later… empty.
On Saturday, Ma-Kayla Vernon and her girlfriend Estefanie shopped all day and stopped to eat. When they left the restaurant, their car and gifts were gone. Kansas City Police found the car two days later, but all the gifts for their kids were nowhere to be found.
“Mostly clothes and shoes cause that’s mainly what they were in need of,” says Ma-Kayla Vernon.
Fortunately, though, there was a happy ending for the family as Ma-Kayla’s co-workers surprised them with a Christmas care package.
Carla Cobb collected donations from Ma-Kayla’s co-workers to make sure the family still had a Merry Christmas. She invited FOX 4 to be there when they surprised Ma-Kayla with candy, candles and cash.
Kansas City Police are still looking for any information that might lead to the arrest of the car thief.
