RAYMORE, Mo. — Randy Sehorn says that the Raymore neighborhood he loves has been wrecked.
The Cass County resident lost a trailer in Wednesday’s storms, and nearly lost three family members in the process as a tornado tore through the area.
He says that strong winds and heavy rains blew through the area as a warning sign, and the three family members living in the trailer started to get antsy.
“My sister was scared,” said Sehorn. “She said, ‘”Randy, look here.’ And she showed me on her phone. She said, ‘It’s gonna hit us.’ I said, ‘No, we’ll be alright.'”
Sehorn, who doesn’t live in the trailer—he has a place next door with a basement. He says that he got everyone into the basement with just seconds to spare.
“It sounded like a loud wind,” said Sehorn. “It sounded like a locomotive or something like a loud wind. It was raining so hard and windy, and I couldn’t see anything.”
Sehorn says that it’s going to take a while to make the trailer usable again.
About 15 minutes to the north, it wasn’t a tornado but high water that had residents scared. Michelle Alexus says that the creek that runs behind her family’s property rose without any notice, turning their backyard into rushing rapids.
“I would think it was a couple of feet deep,” said Alexus. “It was dirty water with a lot of trash.”
By Thursday morning, though, the water was all gone.
“There was nothing you could do except stay in the back of the house and try and stay dry,” said Alexus.
