KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Thirty to 40 head of cattle are dead after the cattle truck they were traveling in crashed near WB I-70 on 118th Street in Kansas City, Kan., on Thursday morning.

Police said around 1:30 a.m. the driver crashed through a guard rail on I-70 and went down an embankment, landing on 118th Street. The truck never overturned, but a number of cattle were killed or had to be euthanized because of their injuries. Several cattle were seen walking around the area, including on the Sunflower Hills Golf Course. One of those cattle has a broken leg and efforts are being made to treat it. The driver of the truck was ejected in the accident and sustained serious injuries. He was transported to an area hospital. There is no word on what caused him to crash.
