KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Reagan Class, the 14-year-old girl shot July 7 at her Northland home by a gunman still on the run, is out of the intensive care unit, according to her father, Dan Class, who has been keeping a caring community apprised of her progress on Facebook.

Class says Reagan had the tube removed from her trachea, something he’s been longing to happen so she could breathe on her own and better communicate with those she needs and loves.

Michelle Class, Reagan’s mother, was also shot that July morning. She suffered gunshot wounds to the arm and stomach and is undergoing rehabilitation.

Class family.Michelle, Reagan, and another daughter, Maddie, were all home at the time an unknown suspect walked into their home and shot Michelle and Reagan at point-blank range. Police continue to seek the man who walked into a nearby home shortly before the shootings, apparently by mistake, and told the neighbor, “Don’t test me. You are not who I am looking for.”

Another neighbor near their home in the 10300 block of North Virginia Ave., found Michelle shot in the stomach in the driveway of her home. Reagan was found inside, also shot.

A search warrant obtained by FOX 4 shows detectives located the gun used to commit the crime just one day after the shooting. Court documents show a black pump handle shotgun with the ejection port facing up was sitting in the basement of a house just down the street from the crime scene.

Police raided the home on July 8, and found seven shotgun shells on the floor near the gun that resembled the ejected casings located at the shooting scene. A regional crime lab later confirmed the gun was used to shoot the Classes.

According to police, the gun belongs to a 19-year-old man who lives at the neighboring house. He was charged with pot possession, but has not been arrested or charged with anything related to the shooting.

Police said they’re making progress, but still need the community’s help in tracking down the shooter. If you know anything, call CrimeStoppers at (816) 474-TIPS.
