MISSION, Kan. — The City of Mission will debate whether to ban talking on cell phones while driving. On Wednesday night, a committee will examine a proposal that would ban drivers from using cell phones unless they have a hands-free device.

Police strongly support the ban. If it is approved, it still has to go before the full council for a vote in September.

Signs would be placed throughout the city to warn drivers about the change.

The State of Kansas already bans texting and driving.
