ORLANDO — A store clerk shot by a man trying to rob him Friday morning may have his cell phone to thank for saving his life.
A man walked into the Hess Gas Station in Orlando and demanded money from the safe but neither of the clerks could open it. As the robber left the gas station, he turned and fired a shot across the store.
At first, the clerk didn’t realize he’d been shot. Then, his chest started hurting. When they removed his cell phone from his shirt pocket, they noticed the bullet lodged in it.
The clerk is expected to be okay, but has some bruising to his chest.
“I’ve seen individuals get shot with low-caliber handguns and I’ve seen it be life ending. So, for this gentleman to be as lucky as he is, it’s a good day for us,” Winter Garden Police Lt. Scott Allen said.
