LEAVENWORTH, Kan. — A chemical spill involving the substance which gives natural gas its distinctive smell caused quite a stink over parts of the Northland on Monday morning.
According to Missouri Gas Energy, a natural gas odorizer spill in Leavenworth County caused a foul odor to spread downwind across the Missouri River and into parts of the Northland.
The chemical – which gives the odorless natural gas a pungent, “skunky” smell – is not hazardous, and there is no danger to the public. According to the Leavenworth County Sheriff, the leak came from Fort Leavenworth, and was reportedly cleaned-up on Sunday evening.
FOX 4 was unable to contact Fort Leavenworth officials for comment.
