KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The gates opened up three and half hours before kickoff on Sunday for tailgating. Even when the Chiefs were up 7-3 in the first quarter, there was still a line to get into the lot. The Chiefs came into the home opener with a win and a lot of hype and plenty of excited fans. Every Sunday, Brandon and his family eat together. Today, it’s a tailgate feast.
“I love grilling out, got a nice spread here. Steak kabobs, some chicken, some shrimp, we also got some nice ribeye steaks we are going to cook up later. Then, we got some nice chicken that we are going to put some BBQ sauce on for everyone,” Brandon said.
Across the lot, Kirk Neighbors and his family are back; season ticket holders for more than a decade.
“I’m everybody’s favorite neighbor today, I got the grill going, and we`re at the Chiefs tailgating. Some peppers here, bacon wrapped,” Neighbors said.
Two games a year, Partha Nandi comes to KC from New York for gameday with the family. Nandi is a banker and believes it’s time to purchase some Chiefs stock.
“You should be buying. Buy the Chiefs! Buy the Chiefs, sell the Cowboys, over-valued,” Nandi said.
In the sea of red, it wasn’t hard to find some support for the boys. And for the Oades brothers, it’s a divided house. Both Jimmy and Billy were born in Dallas, but moved to KC 25 years ago.
“Dressed in Cowboys’ gear growing up and they won three Super Bowls before I was 10, whatever! They were the team to root for. The Chiefs started in Dallas, then they came here. So why isn’t he a fan of them?” Oades said.
