KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Thursday that it’s parting ways with wide receiver Dwayne Bowe. The team’s first round pick from 2007 has spent all eight of his NFL seasons with the Chiefs, catching 532 passes for more than 7,000 yards and 44 touchdowns.
In their release of Bowe, the Chiefs reportedly traded a 5th round draft pick to the New Orleans Saints for veteran guard Ben Grubbs. Bowe had been with the Chiefs for 8 years, and was a 1st round draft pick from LSU. Grubbs is a 2-time pro bowler.
Bowe signed a five-year contract before the 2013 season that was valued at $56 million. He would have taken up a costly roster spot for 2015, counting $14 million against the salary cap for the upcoming season. Bowe took to Twitter on Thursday to thank the organization and fans.
