NOTTINGHAM, U.K. — A British movie theater is apologizing to patrons after an apparent “technical error” led to a theater full of young children waiting to see the animated “Madagascar 3” being exposed to the decidedly child-unfriendly horror flick “Paranormal Activity 4.”

According to Yahoo UK, dozens of shocked families, some with children as young as five, fled the Cineworld cinema in Nottingham after the wrong film – which begins with a bloodied female corpse being thrown at the camera – began on Saturday morning.

“Everybody just scrambled for the exits, all you could hear were children crying and screaming. Everyone was very upset,” said Natasha Lewis, who took her 8-year-old son Dylan to the screening. “I’ve watched a few horror films in my time but the ‘Paranormal Activity’ films are the scariest since ‘The Exorcist’.”

“It was only about two minutes worth of the film but it was enough to scar them for life,” Lewis told Yahoo.

A spokesperson for Cineworld apologized for the incident, which was attributed to a technical error with the projector, and offered refunds and complimentary tickets to the families.
