SHAWNEE, Kan. — Dozens of red cedar trees were cut down in Shawnee Mission Park Saturday, with the blessing of the Johnson County Parks Department.
The county says the trees are invasive, but they make great Christmas trees.
“The eastern red cedars will get really large and they will shade out all the wildflowers and all the grasses so once they grow together they totally shade out all the native vegetation and we lose them forever,” said Matthew Garrett with Johnson County Parks and Rec.
