OLYMPIA, Wash. — The Chrysler Co. sickened a lot of car enthusiasts this week when the company ordered the destruction of the 1992 pre-production Dodge Viper it donated to South Puget Sound Community College in 1992.
The car was only the fourth off the assembly line, according to Q13-FOX-TV, and was one of several Vipers donated to automotive schools around the country.
Automotive Technology Professor Norm Chapman said he received a letter from Chrysler, telling him the car must now be destroyed. The letter gave no reason, but Chapman thinks the company might be responding to possible litigation after two other educational Vipers were involved in crashes while operating illegally outside of the school classroom. Two people died in those crashes.
Chapman said their Viper had never even been on the road.
