KANSAS CITY, Mo. — U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II and other officials toured Penn Valley Community Colleges’ Sustainability Center on Monday morning.

The Sustainability Center, a joint program of the Metropolitan Community Colleges and the Green Impact Zone, is a job-training initiative aimed at unemployed and under-employed Jackson County residents.

According to officials, over 300 students have been serviced through the program and provided, at no tuition cost, job certification training, academic and social support, and job placement assistance. The program is funded by a congressional appropriation through the U.S. Department of Labor.
