CLEVELAND — The Republican National Convention site selection committee announced Tuesday that it is recommending Cleveland as the host city for the 2016 Republican National Convention.
Cleveland, which hasn’t hosted a presidential convention since the 1930s, was a top-two finalist, along with Dallas.
“We’re excited about bringing the convention to Cleveland in Ohio, and we’re excited about the decision. We think it’s a smart decision,” Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus.
The full 168-member RNC is expected to ratify the choice next month.
The plans are for the GOP convention to begin on June 28 or July 18, 2016.
Kansas City also received a visit from the committee, but was eliminated in June.
