LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. — People swapped lots of socks and gently used clothing Sunday at an event for Blair’s Foster Socks.
The clothing swap event allowed the community to bring their own gently used clothing for donation, and then take from the other donated items.
The event is in memory of Blair Shanahan Lane. She was 11 years old when a stray bullet killed her on the fourth of July in 2011.
Blair’s Foster Socks was originally a project Blair was working on to help people in need.
Blair’s mother, Michele Shanahan DeMoss, said the charity has really come along.
“We collect and distribute socks and scholarships for children in distressed situations,” said DeMoss.
They hoped to raise 500 dollars and at least 50 packages of socks with today’s event. All the leftover clothes will be donated to the Salvation Army.
