KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police confirm that the explosion that leveled a South Kansas City house Wednesday night was not caused by a gas explosion and is instead being investigated as a crime.
Hours after the explosion, MGE confirmed that it had checked the area for a gas leaks after receiving reports of an odor. MGE found no leaks and left the area. The explosion was felt by many people.
“We heard a big boom and pressure came against the house and our house really shook,” Dashavia Sanders described. “It makes me not even want to live in this neighborhood anymore, it`s just scary.”
Investigators with the Bomb and Arson unit are now looking for the cause. Both the explosion and investigators’ findings have left other neighbors shaken as well.
“My whole house just shook and I come out to see the explosion over there and my windows busted out. Like wow. Scary,” Priscilla Mosby said. “What if somebody wanted to blow up this house? Like I want to move now. Scary. It`s freaking me out.”

Tye Grant, KCMO Police Dept. confirmed to FOX 4 that the explosion at the home in the 7700 block of East 113th Street was not a result of negligence on the part of the utility company and is being investigated as arson.
The home exploded just after 8 p.m. Wednesday, damaging neighboring homes and slightly injuring one neighbor who was inside her home.
There were no other injuries, as no one lived in the house at the time, nor in the homes next door.
