KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kimberly Barnett, Sheron Jamison and Rosilyn Temple don’t know each but all have something in common, they know what it feels like to lose a loved one to a homicide. Today, with close to a hundred people they released a balloon with their loved one’s name on it.
“My heart cries,” said Temple. “It really helps me to support other mothers that lost a child to a homicide, it’s just good to be here to be able to know, I know how you feel.”
Temple’s 26 year-old son, Antonio Thompson was found shot in head in November of 2011.
“It hurts, I’m a mother, I lost my child,” said Temple. “It was like a part of me had been wiped out”
Rosilyn hugged strangers as they cried together while listening to all the names of homicide victims being read aloud in the AdHoc parking lot.
“Nobody wants to be here, nobody wants to be a part of this,” said Barnett . “I don’t ever want to come here again, but I will in support.”
Barnett’s cousin, David LeBlanc was killed just three months ago. Barnett says she will come back for her family.
This is the fourth year the AdHoc group released balloons for homicide victims. Multiple pastors were also on hand to help with the community wide prayer.
According to Kansas City Missouri Police Stats, 108 homicides were committed in 2012.
