OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Last year on July 4, 2013, about 90,000 spectators watched the Corporate Woods fireworks display, and this year the lead pyrotechnician hopes he can top it.
“It was a beautiful night like it’s going to be tonight. 30 minutes of nonstop fireworks that lit up the sky,” remembers Chuck Gasser, the event chairman of the Overland Park Rotary.
FOX 4’s Judy Le talked to Eric Hershberger, the pyrotechnician, who has been making fireworks professionally for 17 years.
Hershberger showed FOX 4 how he makes the magic happen, with wires connected to a computer, which pumps a signal to light the fireworks to the music on the computer.
Hershberger and his team arrived at about 3:30 in the morning to get ready for the show, which starts at about 9:30 p.m. It will be a long and invigorating night.
More than 1,300 fireworks are prepared for the Corporate Woods 4th of July celebration. It’s the 23rd year for this show.
