KANSAS CITY, Mo. — It seems like lately the price of just about everything has gone up. From gas to groceries many metro families are feeling the pinch.
According to AAA, gas prices have shot up 13 cents in the past month alone. And food staples like milk and bread, beef and chicken are on the rise.
One retiree who spent nearly 40 years with General Motors said he’s on a fixed income. He says his grocery bills have gone up about 15 percent. And his utility bills are also higher than normal because of the recent cold. He says he’s had to start cutting corners and start doing something he never thought he’d do — cut coupons.
“I thought it was ridiculous, but you can save a little bit doing that, you actually can,” Tommy Ponds said.
In some stores, the price of milk is more than $4.50 a gallon. Some analysts warn it could reach record highs next month.
“It’s not like you’re going to get a raise, it’s not like you’re going to work some overtime, that’s not happening, so a lot of times you just do without things for awhile,” Ponds said.
